FIRST stands for "For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology".
Founded by Dean Kamen in 1989, FIRST has inspired kids from all over the world to pursue careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). FIRST has 4 programs for students ages 6-18; FIRST Lego League Jr. (Pre-K students), FIRST Lego League (Grades 1-8), FIRST Tech Challenge (Grades 6-12), and FIRST Robotics Competition (High School Grades 9-12). In January, FRC teams are given a challenge all at the same time, and then they have 6 weeks to design, build, and program a robot to complete that task. At the end of the 6 build weeks, the robot must be bagged and ready to perform at a regional competition. FIRST is a truly unique organization, providing kids with new experiences and opportunities in the STEM industry, and we will proudly promote FIRST to provide others the life-changing opportunities that we get to be a part of. |
